Sacramento river fishing report Red Bluff to Redding
The fly fishing has been pretty consistent the last few weeks with the upper river (Redding area) producing the best action for larger fish. Weather and water fluctuations can put a damper on the bite but that is usually temporary and quite frankly, even in the worst conditions we will still catch trout.
We fished upper, middle, and lower sections of the river the last 2 weeks. We found excellent action (25+ hookups per rod) in the middle runs but the fish were smaller on average than in Redding on the upper stretch. Way lower around Red Bluff the trout action was slower but we got into some nice steelhead and as usual didn’t see another angler around.
Spring fishing will get better going into late March and April.
As the weather gets more consistent and warmer, bug hatches will be more prevalent and the fish will be feeding very actively making for some great fishing. As we go further into the spring and the water comes up, we will begin fishing lower and lower in the river.
